Jr. and Varsity Softball/Baseball Clinic with Coach Rick!

Take me out to the ball game!

Coach Rick hit a homerun this week and last as he led our campers in baseball clinics. We had perfect weather and happy campers as they worked on skills and had fun playing ball.  Hitting, catching, pitching and sportmanship were all on the agenda! And we think everyone enjoyed some major league size fun!

Performing Arts & Dance at Stonybrook

Our Dance Specialist:  Diana Batino

Our campers have expanded their horizons this summer; they have been dancing Salsa, Merenge, Hip-Hop and other Latin dance styles and this is due to the passion of one amazing staff person.

Diana, who was born in Columbia, is all about dancing.  It is such an important part of who she is.  "It is part of my culture....it runs in my veins, and as a Latin person it's a way to express my emotions. I danced for over 8 years traveling all over my country to participate in different carnivals and parades".

And this summer she is the performing arts teacher here at Stonybrook Day Camp.  "I have been teaching Latin rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Latin Hip-hop, Reggaeton, Tango and Samba. I'm really happy that even though  most of them are not familiar with this type of music, they all look forward to go to my class, they really enjoy doing it!"

We are beyond thrilled Diana- THANK YOU and DANCE ON!

Van Challenges: Updates and a Little History.....

It is all about the van challenge at stonybrook day camp and this year our campers and staff have brought creativity and spirit to the next level.  We are WOWed daily with costumes and props and songs.

It is just amazing to see tradition come to life as our van challenge dates back to 1983.  We used to ask that van counselors get their campers to sing songs on the way to camp but surprise, surprise..... not everyone liked to sing!  One creative counselor had the idea that he would dress up in costume to try to motivate his campers.  Soon other counselors started to do the same.  Every day campers would guess what the counselors would dress up as for the next day.  And before we knew it, campers started joining in the fun.  The following year, theme days were implemented and all were encouraged to participate.

Two years ago the van challenge became even more fun as Jen Mambelli suggested that we award those who were the most spirited by having them come up to perform in front of everyone at flag pole.  And this is now something we look forward to daily.  Every day we are amused and amazed as our campers show their spirit and it is truly all about camp fun starting on the van!

Our current Van Challenge leaders are:

Vans 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 12, and 15

Here is a look at today's Van Challenge: Rock Star Day!
